low profile deterrent

First introduced to the UK from its native Korea in 2011, optical gel (sometimes referred to as fire gel) has been used with great success in a variety of situations.

Optical gel is a food safe yellow gel that emits ultraviolet vapours that appear to birds as flames. Additionally, the gel gives off an odour, which has a deterrent effect. The gel is completely harmless to birds, and its effects are invisible to humans.

Optical gel can be used to protect ledges or flat surfaces, but unlike spikes or a post and wire system, it is almost entirely unnoticeable from the ground as it is applied in low-profile, 8mm high dishes.

Optical gel is highly durable and is not affected by adverse weather conditions or extreme temperatures.

Recent research has confirmed that optical gel remains effective for at least four years and can last up to eight years.

The gel comes prepackaged in low-profile dishes that are attached to a structure with an adhesive. Special magnetic dishes are also available to attach to metallic surfaces.

Why choose Bird Management Solutions?

Bird Management Solutions has been installing optical gel since it first came on the market in 2011. Since then, we have installed it on countless sites with great success. However, we don’t recommend it for every situation. Therefore, we always carry out a full site survey before recommending a suitable proofing or deterrent method.

If you’d like to arrange a free site survey or if you have any questions about optical gel or any of the alternatives, please contact us to speak to an experienced bird proofing specialist.
